PENSAR LISBOA 3rd Edition - 8th July

We have the pleasure to invite you to rewatch the webinar moments through our Facebook and Youtube channel.

WHAT CITY WE ENVISION?

The history of the city was visibly marked by the earthquake which, on the morning of November 1, 1755, almost completely destroyed the old city of Lisbon that was then living the remains of its opulence. The Marquis of Pombal declared a return to "ancient simplicity", and so it happened, in a way that architectural language materialized, making Lisbon the last of the old cities and the first of the modern ones.

In a much more subtle way, for invisible and immaterial, but not less powerful, the Covid-19 pandemic is revealing a new era for cities. If cities are the people in physical and affective proximity, then it is the cities that are at stake when the order is to keep distance. There is no risk of extinction, but an opportunity of metamorphosis. The time is ripe to rethink cities, help them leave the cocoon and emerge differently. Lisbon can make way again.
